Welcome to Year 3/4

PE Days

Curbar - Tuesday and Thursday

Burbage - Monday and Thursday

Stanage - Monday (Swimming) and Thursday

This half-term our topic is ‘Great Manor Lodge Bake Off’, where we will be learning about recipes and different food groups. In Year 3/4, we love to get parents/carers involved and will be inviting them in for taster sessions through the half term.

Each child should be encouraged to read for at least 10 minutes every day. This should then be recorded in the child's reading record and the children will get a reward.

The children have been put into spelling groups and will be given a list of spellings to practise each week. Please help your children to learn their spellings.

Key Dates:

English

Currently, in English...

In English we will be studying a recipe for a delicious cookie. The children will learn the recipe by putting actions to the words and rehearsing the story several times. Then, we will be adapting the recipe and introducing different ingredients in order to produce our very own unique cookie! After that, we will look at how we can advertise the cookies using a range of literary techniques to make the taste come alive with our words.

We will also be taste testing the cookies and creating an amazing design to ensure they are as appealing as possible.

Finally, we will be presenting our cookies to the SLT team to determine who has won our 'Great Manor Lodge Bake Off.'

Maths

Currently, in maths...

In Maths we will be looking at the written calculation methods for division and multiplication in order to mass produce our very own brand of cookies! We will be practising our measuring skills with lots of fun, hands on activities creating delicious, sweet treats throughout the half term.

In addition to this, we will be continuing to practise our times table and other key skills.

Message to Parents:

Our children need to know their times tables off by heart. If they know their times tables they can access a wide variety of maths with much more ease. This can only come by practicing. Here are a few useful web-sites to help them:

 Currently, in topic...

In Topic we will be studying the different food groups and learning about how different types of food play an important role in our bodies. We will complete independent learning and group activities to create our own healthy meal and discuss how children can make better choices with their snacks to improve their health and life a healthy lifestyle in the future.

In addition to this, we will be looking at how to create different (simple) dishes that the children can try out at home with adult supervision!
